Umar bin Abdul-Aziz once had a slave flogged eighty lashes for slander.Abu Zinad said, "I asked Abdullah bin Amir bin Rabia about that, and he replied, 'I lived in the time of Umar bin Khattab and Uthman bin Affan and the caliphs on down to the present, and I never saw anyone flog a slave more than forty lashes for slander.'"
