Malik reported,

Saeed bin Musayab was asked about a slave under a contract of manumission who was jointly owned by two men, one of whom freed his own share. The slave then died leaving a great deal of wealth.He replied, "The one who held on to his contract is paid what remained owing to him, then the two of them divide what is left equally between them."

حدثني مالك، أنه بلغه

أن سعيد بن المسيب سئل عن مكاتب كان بين رجلين، فأعتق أحدهما نصيبه، فمات المكاتب، وترك مالا كثيرا، فقال: يؤدى إلى الذي تمسك بكتابته الذي بقي له، ثم يقتسمان ما بقي بالسوية.
