Umar bin Khattab said, "What is the matter with men who make gifts to their sons and then hold on to them? If one of their sons dies, the man says, 'The property is mine and in my possession, I never gave it to anyone,' but if he himself dies, he says, 'It belongs to my son, I gave it to him long ago.' Whoever makes a gift and the one to whom it is given does not take possession of it, so that if the giver dies it would go to his heirs, that gift is void."
