Abdullah bin Abu Umaya reported,

A woman's husband died, so she observed a waiting period of four months and ten days, and then married again once she was free to do so. She stayed with her new husband for four and a half months and then gave birth to a fully formed child. Her husband went to Umar bin Khattab and told him about it, so Umar summoned some elderly women who had lived through the days before Islam and questioned them about the matter. One of the women said, "I can tell you about this woman. Her husband died when she had already conceived by him, and then she bled, and her child withered in her womb. When the husband who married her had relations with her and the child received the fluid, it stirred in her womb and grew."Umar bin Khattab accepted her explanation, separated the couple, and said, "Nothing but good has reached me concerning the two of you." And he assigned the child's parentage to the first husband.
