Ali bin Abu Talib said concerning the two arbiters mentioned by Allah Most High in His words, "And if you fear a breach between the two, appoint an arbiter from his family and an arbiter from hers. If they both desire reconciliation, Allah will bring about harmony between them. Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware" [Nisa 4:35], that it rests with the two arbiters either to separate the couple or to keep them together.
