Saeed bin Musayab reported,

Umar bin Khattab said, "Any woman who loses her husband and does not know where he is should wait four years, then observe a waiting period of four months and ten days, after which she is free to remarry."

أن عمر بن الخطاب قال أيما امرأة فقدت زوجها فلم تدر أين هو فإنها تنتظر أربع سنين ثم تعتد أربعة أشهر وعشرا ثم تحل
