A freedwoman of Banu Adi named Zabra told him that she had been married to a slave while she herself was a slave girl at the time, and then she was set free.Zabra said, "Hafsah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ, sent for me and called me in, and she said, 'I am going to tell you something, but I would not like you to act on it. Your marriage is now in your own hands, as long as your husband has not touched you. If he touches you, then you have no say in the matter at all.'"Zabra continued, "So I said, 'That is divorce, and divorce, and divorce.' And so I separated from him with a threefold divorce."
