Ibn Shihab reported,

During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ there were women who embraced Islam in their own land without emigrating, while their husbands at the time of their conversion were still disbelievers. Among them was the daughter of Walid bin Mughira, who was married to Safwan bin Umaya. She accepted Islam on the day of the conquest, while her husband Safwan bin Umaya fled from Islam. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Safwan's cousin, Wahb bin Umayr, to him carrying the cloak of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as a guarantee of safety for Safwan bin Umaya. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited him to Islam and asked him to come to him, saying that if he found the matter acceptable he could accept it, and if not he would be given two months of safe passage. When Safwan came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with his cloak, he called out to him in front of everyone and said, "Muhammad, this is Wahb bin Umayr who has come to me with your cloak and claims that you invited me to come to you, and that if I accept the matter I may take it, and if not you will give me two months of safe passage."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Come down, Abu Wahb."Safwan replied, "No, by Allah, I will not come down until you make it clear to me."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, you have four months of safe passage."Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ set out toward Hawazin at Hunayn, and he sent word to Safwan bin Umaya asking to borrow some equipment and weapons that he had.Safwan asked, "Willingly or by force?"The Prophet ﷺ answered, "Willingly."So Safwan lent him the equipment and weapons he had. Then Safwan went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ while still a disbeliever. He witnessed Hunayn and Taif as a disbeliever while his wife was a Muslim, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did not separate him from his wife until Safwan accepted Islam, and she remained with him under that same marriage.
