Abdullah bin Masud was asked for a legal ruling while he was in Kufa about marrying a mother after having married her daughter, when the daughter had not been touched, and he permitted it. Later Ibn Masud came to Madinah and inquired about the matter, and he was informed that it was not as he had said, and that the condition applies only to stepdaughters. So Ibn Masud returned to Kufa, and he did not even reach his home before he went to the man to whom he had given that ruling and ordered him to separate from his wife.
وحدثني
أن عبد الله بن مسعود استفتي وهو بالكوفة عن نكاح الأم بعد الابنة إذا لم تكن الابنة مست، فأرخص في ذلك، ثم إن ابن مسعود قدم المدينة، فسأل عن ذلك، فأخبر: أنه ليس كما قال، وإنما الشرط في الربائب. فرجع ابن مسعود إلى الكوفة، فلم يصل إلى منزله، حتى أتى الرجل الذي أفتاه بذلك، فأمره أن يفارق امرأته.
