Malik reported,

Umar bin Abdul-Aziz wrote during his caliphate to one of his governors that whatever is stipulated in the marriage contract, whether it goes to her guardian or to anyone else, by way of a gift or a token of honor, belongs to the woman if she claims it.

عن مالك، أنه بلغه

أن عمر بن عبد العزيز كتب في خلافته إلى بعض عماله: أن كل ما اشترط النكاح من كان لها، أو غيره من حباء أو كرامة، فهو للمرأة إن ابتغته.
