The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sitting while a grave was being dug in Madinah. A man looked into the grave and said, "What a wretched resting place for a believer."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What an evil thing you have said."The man replied, "I did not mean that, Messenger of Allah. I only meant that being killed in the path of Allah is better."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Nothing compares to being killed in the path of Allah. There is no spot on earth that I would rather have my grave in than this one," saying it three times, meaning Madinah.
و حدثني عن مالك
كان رسول الله ﷺ جالسا وقبر يحفر بالمدينة فاطلع رجل في القبر فقال بئس مضجع المؤمن فقال رسول الله ﷺ بئس ما قلت فقال الرجل إني لم أرد هذا يا رسول الله إنما أردت القتل في سبيل الله فقال رسول الله ﷺ لا مثل للقتل في سبيل الله ما على الأرض بقعة هي أحب إلي أن يكون قبري بها منها ثلاث مرات يعني المدينة
