I heard a man asking Abdullah bin Abbas about the spoils of war.Ibn Abbas said, "A horse is part of the spoils, and what is stripped from a slain enemy is part of the spoils."Then the man repeated his question, and Ibn Abbas gave him the same answer.Then the man said, "The spoils that Allah mentioned in His Book, what are they?"Qasim said, he kept pressing him with the question until he nearly drove him to exasperation.Then Ibn Abbas said, "Do you know what this man is like? He is like Sabigh, whom Umar bin Khattab flogged."
و حدثني مالك عن ابن شهاب
سمعت رجلا يسأل عبد الله بن عباس عن الأنفال فقال ابن عباس الفرس من النفل والسلب من النفل قال ثم عاد الرجل لمسألته فقال ابن عباس ذلك أيضا ثم قال الرجل الأنفال التي قال الله في كتابه ما هي قال القاسم فلم يزل يسأله حتى كاد أن يحرجه ثم قال ابن عباس أتدرون ما مثل هذا مثل صبيغ الذي ضربه عمر بن الخطاب
