The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to straighten the rows until he made them as straight as a spear or an arrow shaft. He noticed one man's chest protruding, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Straighten your rows, or Allah will surely cause discord between your faces."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا محمد بن جعفر حدثنا شعبة حدثنا سماك بن حرب أنه سمع
كان رسول الله ﷺ يسوي الصف حتى يجعله مثل الرمح أو القدح قال فرأى صدر رجل ناتئا فقال رسول الله ﷺ سووا صفوفكم أو ليخالفن الله بين وجوهكم
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer, the aforementioned chapter, hadith no. 436, from the hadith of Simak, with slight variation.
