Abu Masud Uqba bin Amr reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one who leads the people in prayer should be the one who knows the most of the Book of Allah. If they are equal in recitation, then the one who emigrated earliest should lead them. If they are equal in emigration, then the eldest among them should lead. A man should not lead the prayer in another man's home or in his place of authority, nor should he sit in the seat of honor in another's house except with his permission."
