It was said to the Prophet ﷺ, and sometimes Sufyan would say, "I said, 'Messenger of Allah, the people of wealth and riches have taken away the reward. They pray as we pray, and they give in charity while we cannot.'"He said to me, "Shall I tell you of something which, if you do it, you will catch up with those who have surpassed you and outstrip those who come after you? You praise Allah after every prayer, glorify Him, and proclaim His greatness, thirty-three times, thirty-three times, and thirty-four times."Sufyan said, "I do not know which of them was the one repeated thirty-four times."

[Its isnad is sahih] Humaydi narrated it from the hadith of Sufyan, with this chain, and Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, 748, and it has other routes in Ahmad, 5/158, and elsewhere.
