The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever performs a prayer in which he does not recite the Mother of the Quran, his prayer is deficient and incomplete."I said, "Abu Hurayrah, sometimes I pray behind the imam."He pinched my arm and said, "Persian, recite it to yourself."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا إسمعيل ابن علية عن ابن جريج عن العلاء بن عبد الرحمن بن يعقوب أن أبا السائب أخبره أنه سمع
قال رسول الله ﷺ من صلى صلاة لم يقرأ فيها بأم القرآن فهي خداج غير تمام فقلت يا أبا هريرة فإني أكون أحيانا وراء الإمام فغمز ذراعي وقال يا فارسي اقرأ بها في نفسك
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on the obligation of reciting Fatihah in every rakat, etc., hadith no. 395, from the hadith of Ibn Jurayj through this chain. In the version of Humaydi (Deobandi edition, 974), Abdul-Rahman said, "I said to Abu Hurairah, 'But I hear the imam's recitation.' He pinched me with his hand and said, 'O Farsi,' or he said, 'O son of Farsi, recite it to yourself.'"
