The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to recite for us in the first two units of the noon prayer, and at times he would let us hear a verse.
حدثنا بشر بن هلال الصواف حدثنا يزيد بن زريع حدثنا هشام الدستوائي عن يحيى بن أبي كثير
كان رسول الله ﷺ يقرأ بنا في الركعتين الأوليين من صلاة الظهر ويسمعنا الآية أحيانا
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Adhan, chapter on recitation during Asr, no. 762, 779, from the hadith of Hisham, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on recitation during Dhuhr, no. 451, from the hadith of Yahya, through the same chain.
