Abdullah bin Umar reported,

The Prophet ﷺ consulted the people about how to summon them to prayer. They suggested a horn, but he disliked it because of its association with the Jews. They then suggested a bell, but he disliked it because of its association with the Christians. That night, the call to prayer was shown in a dream to a man from the Ansar named Abdullah bin Zayd, and also to Umar bin Khattab. The man from the Ansar came knocking at the door of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the night, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ instructed Bilal to make the call accordingly, so he called the adhan.Zuhri said that Bilal added in the call for the dawn prayer, "Prayer is better than sleep," and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ approved it.Umar said, "Messenger of Allah, I saw the same vision he saw, but he came to you before me."
