Umm Habiba bint Jahsh, who was married to Abdul-Rahman bin Awf, suffered from continuous bleeding for seven years. She complained about this to the Prophet ﷺ, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "This is not menstruation. It is only a vein. So when your menstrual period comes, leave off the prayer, and when it ends, perform the ritual bath and pray."Ayesha said, "She used to perform the ritual bath for every prayer and then pray. She would sit in a basin belonging to her sister Zaynab bint Jahsh, and the redness of the blood would rise above the water."
حدثنا محمد بن يحيى حدثنا أبو المغيرة حدثنا الأوزاعي عن الزهري عن عروة بن الزبير وعمرة بنت عبد الرحمن أن
استحيضت أم حبيبة بنت جحش وهي تحت عبد الرحمن بن عوف سبع سنين فشكت ذلك إلى النبي ﷺ فقال النبي ﷺ إن هذه ليست بالحيضة وإنما هو عرق فإذا أقبلت الحيضة فدعي الصلاة وإذا أدبرت فاغتسلي وصلي قالت عائشة فكانت تغتسل لكل صلاة ثم تصلي وكانت تقعد في مركن لأختها زينب بنت جحش حتى إن حمرة الدم لتعلو الماء
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Menstruation, chapter "The Blood of a Woman with Prolonged Bleeding," Hadith 327, and Muslim in the Book of Menstruation, chapter "The Woman with Prolonged Bleeding, Her Washing and Prayer," Hadith 334, from the hadith of Zuhri, with this same chain.
