The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do you know what my Lord gave me the choice of tonight?"We replied, "Allah and His Messenger know best."He said, "He gave me the choice between admitting half of my nation into Paradise or the right of intercession, and I chose intercession."We said, "Messenger of Allah, pray to Allah to make us among its people."He said, "It is for every Muslim."
حدثنا هشام بن عمار حدثنا صدقة بن خالد حدثنا ابن جابر قال سمعت سليم بن عامر يقول سمعت
قال رسول الله ﷺ أتدرون ما خيرني ربي الليلة قلنا الله ورسوله أعلم قال فإنه خيرني بين أن يدخل نصف أمتي الجنة وبين الشفاعة فاخترت الشفاعة قلنا يا رسول الله ادع الله أن يجعلنا من أهلها قال هي لكل مسلم
Its isnad is sahih. Tabarani narrated it in 18/68, 69, no. 126, from the hadith of Hisham in full, and Bishr bin Bakr corroborated him as reported by Hakim, who graded it sahih in 1/14, 15, 66, according to the standard of Muslim, and Dhahabi agreed with him. The hadith has other routes found in Tirmidhi, no. 2443, Ibn Hibban, nos. 2592, 2594, and Hakim, 2/67, and others.
