The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A servant cannot reach the rank of the truly God-fearing until he leaves what is harmless out of caution against what is harmful."
[Its isnad is hasan]. Tirmidhi narrated it in the Description of the Day of Resurrection, in the chapter titled "The sign of piety is leaving aside what is permissible, out of caution," hadith no. 2451, from the hadith of Abu Aqeel Abdullah bin Aqeel, through this chain, and he said, "Hasan gharib." Hakim graded it sahih in 4/319, as did Dhahabi.Abdullah bin Yazid Dimashqi was deemed weak by Juzjani, Ibn Hajar, and Dhahabi, while Ibn Hibban, Tirmidhi, Hakim, and Dhahabi deemed him reliable, and the view affirming his reliability is the stronger one.
