The Messenger of Allah ﷺ turned to us and said, "Company of Muhajirun, there are five things that, if you are tested with them, I seek refuge in Allah that you should ever live to see them.Indecency never appears among a people to the point that they practice it openly without plague and diseases never known among their predecessors spreading among them.No people ever cheat in weights and measures without being struck by famine, severe hardship, and the oppression of their rulers.No people ever withhold the zakat due on their wealth without being denied rain from the sky, and were it not for the animals, they would receive no rain at all.No people ever break their covenant with Allah and His Messenger without Allah giving an enemy from outside power over them, who then seizes some of what is in their hands.And whenever their leaders fail to rule by the Book of Allah and to choose from what Allah has revealed, Allah causes their violence to fall among themselves."
حدثنا محمود بن خالد الدمشقي حدثنا سليمان بن عبد الرحمن أبو أيوب عن ابن أبي مالك عن أبيه عن عطاء بن أبي رباح
أقبل علينا رسول الله ﷺ فقال يا معشر المهاجرين خمس إذا ابتليتم بهن وأعوذ بالله أن تدركوهن لم تظهر الفاحشة في قوم قط حتى يعلنوا بها إلا فشا فيهم الطاعون والأوجاع التي لم تكن مضت في أسلافهم الذين مضوا ولم ينقصوا المكيال والميزان إلا أخذوا بالسنين وشدة المئونة وجور السلطان عليهم ولم يمنعوا زكاة أموالهم إلا منعوا القطر من السماء ولولا البهائم لم يمطروا ولم ينقضوا عهد الله وعهد رسوله إلا سلط الله عليهم عدوا من غيرهم فأخذوا بعض ما في أيديهم وما لم تحكم أئمتهم بكتاب الله ويتخيروا مما أنزل الله إلا جعل الله بأسهم بينهم
Chain evaluation, [sahih] Abu Naeem narrated it in al-Hilyah, 8/333, 334, from the hadith of Sulayman by this chain, and Busiri graded it sahih. It has many corroborating narrations with Tabarani in Musnad Shamiyin, 2/390–392, no. 1558, and elsewhere. The hadith of Tabarani was graded sahih by Hakim, 4/540, and Dhahabi agreed with him, though there is a gap in the chain of al-Mustadrak, so this should be noted.
