He was an ally of Banu Amir bin Luayy and had witnessed Badr with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He reported that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Abu Ubayda bin Jarrah to Bahrain to bring its tribute. The Prophet ﷺ had made a peace agreement with the people of Bahrain and appointed Ala bin Hadrami over them.Abu Ubayda arrived with wealth from Bahrain. The Ansar heard of Abu Ubayda's arrival and showed up for the dawn prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer and turned to leave, they presented themselves before him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ smiled when he saw them and said, "I think you have heard that Abu Ubayda has arrived with something from Bahrain."They replied, "Indeed, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Rejoice and hope for what will please you. By Allah, it is not poverty that I fear for you. Rather, I fear that worldly riches will be spread before you as they were spread before those who came before you, then you will compete for them as they competed for them, and they will destroy you as they destroyed them."
