He went out one day to the mosque of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and found Muaz bin Jabal sitting by the grave of the Prophet ﷺ, weeping.He asked, "What makes you weep?"Muaz replied, "Something I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ makes me weep. I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'A small amount of showing off is shirk, and whoever shows enmity toward a friend of Allah has openly challenged Allah to war. Allah loves the righteous, the pious, the hidden ones, those who, when absent, are not missed, and when present, are not invited or recognized. Their hearts are lamps of guidance, bringing them through every dark and dusty trial.'"
حدثنا حرملة بن يحيى حدثنا عبد الله بن وهب أخبرني ابن لهيعة عن عيسى بن عبد الرحمن عن زيد بن أسلم عن أبيه
أنه خرج يوما إلى مسجد رسول الله ﷺ فوجد معاذ بن جبل قاعدا عند قبر النبي ﷺ يبكي فقال ما يبكيك قال يبكيني شيء سمعته من رسول الله ﷺ سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن يسير الرياء شرك وإن من عادى لله وليا فقد بارز الله بالمحاربة إن الله يحب الأبرار الأتقياء الأخفياء الذين إذا غابوا لم يفتقدوا وإن حضروا لم يدعوا ولم يعرفوا قلوبهم مصابيح الهدى يخرجون من كل غبراء مظلمة

[Daif] Recorded by Hakim, 4/328, from the hadith of Isa Zarqi, with this wording. He said, "Sahih," and Dhahabi agreed with him. But Isa is discarded (matruk) (Taqrib), and part of the hadith has sahih corroborating narrations. Hakim also has a defective narration at 2/317.
