A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and asked, "Messenger of Allah, which supplication is best?"He replied, "Ask your Lord for pardon and well-being in this world and the next."Then the man came to him on the second day and asked, "Messenger of Allah, which supplication is best?"He replied, "Ask your Lord for pardon and well-being in this world and the next."Then he came to him on the third day and asked, "Prophet of Allah, which supplication is best?"He replied, "Ask your Lord for pardon and well-being in this world and the next. For if you are granted pardon and well-being in this world and the next, you have truly succeeded."
حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن إبراهيم الدمشقي حدثنا ابن أبي فديك أخبرني سلمة بن وردان
أتى النبي ﷺ رجل فقال يا رسول الله أي الدعاء أفضل قال سل ربك العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة ثم أتاه في اليوم الثاني فقال يا رسول الله أي الدعاء أفضل قال سل ربك العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة ثم أتاه في اليوم الثالث فقال يا نبي الله أي الدعاء أفضل قال سل ربك العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة فإذا أعطيت العفو والعافية في الدنيا والآخرة فقد أفلحت
[Its chain is daif] Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Supplications, Chapter on the merit of asking for well-being and safety, 3512, from the hadith of Salama bin Wardan, and he said, hasan gharib. Salama is daif, as stated in Taqrib and elsewhere.
