He heard the Prophet ﷺ when a man came to him and said, "Messenger of Allah, what should I say when I ask my Lord?"He replied, "Say, 'O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, grant me well-being, and provide for me.'" He held together his four fingers, all except the thumb, and said, "These gather for you both your religion and your worldly life."
Muslim narrated it in the Book of Remembrance and Supplication, Chapter on the Excellence of Tahlil, Tasbih, and Supplication, hadith no. 2697/34, 36, from the hadith of Abu Malik, with the same wording.
