Ibn Maymun reported from Umar that the Prophet ﷺ used to seek refuge from cowardice, miserliness, decrepit old age, the punishment of the grave, and the trial of the heart.Waki explained, "This means a man who dies in a state of trial without seeking Allah's forgiveness for it."
حدثنا علي بن محمد حدثنا وكيع عن إسرائيل عن أبي إسحق
و بن ميمون عن عمر أن النبي ﷺ كان يتعوذ من الجبن والبخل وأرذل العمر وعذاب القبر وفتنة الصدر قال وكيع يعني الرجل يموت على فتنة لا يستغفر الله منها
Its chain is daif. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Prayer, chapter on seeking refuge, no. 1539, from the hadith of Waki, with this chain. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 2445, and Hakim, 1/530, said it meets the standard of the two Shaykhs, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Abu Ishaq narrated with "an" without specifying direct hearing, and it has other routes, all of them daif. It has a corroborating witness in Ibn Khuzayma, no. 746, and elsewhere, with a different wording with slight variation, and its chain is sahih.
