The wives of the Prophet ﷺ were permitted to let their hems extend a cubit. They would come to us, and we would measure out a cubit for them with a reed.
حدثنا أبو بكر حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي عن سفيان عن زيد العمي عن أبي الصديق الناجي
أن أزواج النبي ﷺ رخص لهن في الذيل ذراعا فكن يأتينا فنذرع لهن بالقصب ذراعا
[Its chain is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in Kitab al-Libas, chapter on the length of the garment's train, hadith 4119, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri through this chain. Zayd Ammi has already been discussed, hadith 2703, and he has another version with Nasai in his Kubra, and part of it has a corroborating narration in Abu Dawud, hadith 4117, whose chain is sahih.
