He said to me, "My son, had you been with us when we were with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the rain caught us, you would have thought our smell was the smell of sheep."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا الحسن بن موسى عن شيبان عن قتادة
قال لي يا بني لو شهدتنا ونحن مع رسول الله ﷺ إذا أصابتنا السماء لحسبت أن ريحنا ريح الضأن
[Its chain is daif] Abu Dawud narrated it in Kitab al-Libas, chapter on wearing wool and hair, no. 4033, from the hadith of Qatada through this route. Qatada used the ambiguous form "an" in narrating, and I did not find an explicit statement of his having heard it directly. See also no. 175.
