The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "What do you use as a laxative?"I replied, "Shubrum."He said, "It is hot and harsh." Then I used senna as a laxative, and he said, "If there were anything that could cure death, it would be senna. Senna is a cure for death."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا أبو أسامة عن عبد الحميد بن جعفر عن زرعة بن عبد الرحمن عن مولى لمعمر التيمي عن معمر التيمي
قال لي رسول الله ﷺ بماذا كنت تستمشين قلت بالشبرم قال حار جار ثم استمشيت بالسنى فقال لو كان شيء يشفي من الموت كان السني والسني شفاء من الموت
[Its chain is daif] Ahmad narrated it, 6/369, from Ibn Abu Shayba, through the same chain.The freed slave of Mamar Taymi, whose name is Utba bin Abdullah, and Tirmidhi narrated it, no. 2081, through the route of Abdul-Hameed bin Jafar, from Utba bin Abdullah Taymi, from Asma, through the same chain, and he said, hasan gharib. Hakim graded it sahih, 4/404, and Dhahabi agreed with him.The Hafiz said in Tahdhib, According to this, Tirmidhi's narration is disconnected, since the freed slave has dropped out of it. I say, there is doubt about whether he actually heard from Asma, and the hadith has another flaw besides. It has another daif route, which Hakim narrated, 4/200, 201, and graded sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Ibn Jurayj narrated it using the ambiguous formula "from" (anana), and it contains other flaws as well.
