The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about clarified butter, cheese, and wild donkeys. He said, "What is lawful is what Allah has made lawful in His Book, what is unlawful is what Allah has made unlawful in His Book, and what He has remained silent about is among that which He has pardoned."

سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن السمن والجبن والفراء قال الحلال ما أحل الله في كتابه والحرام ما حرم الله في كتابه وما سكت عنه فهو مما عفا عنه
[Hasan]. Tirmidhi reported it in the Book of Clothing, chapter on what has come regarding the wearing of fur, hadith no. 1726, from Ismail bin Musa, with this chain, and said, "Gharib," and mentioned some remarks. Sayf bin Harun is daif according to Taqrib. The hadith has a corroborating narration in Hakim (2/375), who graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him, while Haythami graded it hasan (Majma, 1/171).
