I entered upon the Prophet ﷺ in his house, and he had some of this gourd with him. I asked, "What is this?"He replied, "This is qara, also called dubba. We use it to make our food go further."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا وكيع عن إسمعيل بن أبي خالد
دخلت على النبي ﷺ في بيته وعنده هذا الدباء فقلت أي شيء هذا قال هذا القرع هو الدباء نكثر به طعامنا
[Its isnad is daif]. Ahmad narrated it in 4/352 from Waki with this chain, and Hafiz declared it sahih in al-Isabah 1/212, as did Busiri. Tirmidhi also narrated it in al-Shamail, no. 152, and Nasai in al-Kubra, no. 6665, from the hadith of Ibn Abu Khalid with this chain. It has already appeared as no. 1612, and I did not find an explicit statement of his hearing it.
