Umm Sulaym sent me with a basket of fresh dates to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. I did not find him at home, as he had recently gone out to visit a freedman of his who had invited him and prepared a meal for him. So I went to him and found him eating.He invited me to eat with him. The man had prepared a dish of bread soaked in broth with meat and gourd, and the Prophet ﷺ was clearly fond of the gourd. So I began gathering the pieces of gourd and placing them close to him.When we had finished eating, he returned to his house, and I set the basket of dates before him. He kept eating from it and distributing the dates until the very last of them was gone.

بعثت معي أم سليم بمكتل فيه رطب إلى رسول الله ﷺ فلم أجده وخرج قريبا إلى مولى له دعاه فصنع له طعاما فأتيته وهو يأكل قال فدعاني لآكل معه قال وصنع ثريدة بلحم وقرع قال فإذا هو يعجبه القرع قال فجعلت أجمعه فأدنيه منه فلما طعمنا منه رجع إلى منزله ووضعت المكتل بين يديه فجعل يأكل ويقسم حتى فرغ من آخره
