A roasted lizard was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and placed before him. He stretched out his hand to eat from it, but one of those present said, "Messenger of Allah, it is the flesh of a lizard." So he withdrew his hand.Khalid asked him, "Messenger of Allah, is the lizard forbidden?"He replied, "No, but it is not found in the land of my people, and I find myself averse to it."Khalid then reached for the lizard and ate from it while the Messenger of Allah ﷺ looked on.

أن رسول الله ﷺ أتي بضب مشوي فقرب إليه فأهوى بيده ليأكل منه فقال له من حضره يا رسول الله إنه لحم ضب فرفع يده عنه فقال له خالد يا رسول الله أحرام الضب قال لا ولكنه لم يكن بأرضي فأجدني أعافه قال فأهوى خالد إلى الضب فأكل منه ورسول الله ﷺ ينظر إليه
Takhrij (source classification): Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Foods, chapter "What the Prophet ﷺ Would Not Eat Until It Was Named for Him So He Would Know What It Was," hadith no. 5391, and elsewhere, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hunting and Slaughtered Animals, chapter "The Permissibility of the Dabb (Lizard)," hadith no. 43/1945, from the hadith of Zuhri through this chain.
