We were with the Prophet ﷺ when the people came across some lizards. They roasted them and ate from them. I caught one of them, roasted it, and brought it to the Prophet ﷺ.He took a palm stalk and began counting its fingers with it, then said, "A nation from the Children of Israil was transformed into creatures on the earth, and I do not know, perhaps these are they."I said, "The people have already roasted them and eaten them."He neither ate from it nor forbade it.
[Sahih] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Foods, Chapter on Eating the Dabb Lizard, no. 3795, from the hadith of Husayn, with this wording, and Hafiz Ibn Hajar graded it sahih in Fath al-Bari, 9/663. It has corroborating narrations in Muslim and elsewhere.
