She entered upon Ayesha and saw a spear placed in her house. She asked, "Umm Muiminin, what do you do with this?"Ayesha replied, "We use it to kill these geckos, for the Prophet of Allah ﷺ told us that when Ibrahim was cast into the fire, there was no creature on earth that did not try to put the fire out except for the gecko, which would blow on it. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered that it be killed."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا يونس بن محمد عن جرير بن حازم عن نافع
أنها دخلت على عائشة فرأت في بيتها رمحا موضوعا فقالت يا أم المؤمنين ما تصنعين بهذا قالت نقتل به هذه الأوزاغ فإن نبي الله ﷺ أخبرنا أن إبراهيم لما ألقي في النار لم تكن في الأرض دابة إلا أطفأت النار غير الوزغ فإنها كانت تنفخ عليه فأمر رسول الله ﷺ بقتله
[Its isnad is hasan] Ahmad narrated it in 6/83, 109 from the hadith of Jareer with this wording, and Busiri and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Mawarid, no. 1082).Ibn Hazim stated explicitly that he heard it directly, and Ayub corroborated him. Saibah was deemed trustworthy by Busiri and Ibn Hibban, and there is a corroborating narration for her in Nasai, and the hadith has supporting narrations in Bukhari and others.
