The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about Jarad. He said, "It is among the largest of Allah's armies. I neither eat it nor forbid it."
حدثنا أبو بشر بكر بن خلف ونصر بن علي قالا حدثنا زكريا بن يحيى بن عمارة حدثنا أبو العوام عن أبي عثمان النهدي
سئل رسول الله ﷺ عن الجراد فقال أكثر جنود الله لا آكله ولا أحرمه
Its isnad is daif. Abu Dawud reported it in Kitab al-Atimah, chapter on eating locusts, no. 3814, from the hadith of Zakariya through this route. Abu Awwam, Faid, was not deemed reliable by anyone except Ibn Hibban, and it may well be that Sulayman Taymi concealed him through tadlis, and Allah knows best. It has also been reported as a mursal narration.
