A man sent some money with me as a gift for the Kaabah. I entered the House, and Shayb was sitting on a chair. I handed the money over to him.He asked me, "Is this yours?"I said, "No. If it were mine, I would not have brought it to you."He said, "Since you have said that, let me tell you. Umar bin Khattab once sat in this very seat where you have sat, and he said, 'I will not leave until I distribute the wealth of the Kaabah among the poor Muslims.'"I said, "You will not do that."He said, "I most certainly will."I asked, "Why is that?"I replied, "Because the Prophet ﷺ saw it in its place, and so did Abu Bakr, and they were both more in need of the money than you, yet they did not touch it."So he got up just as he was and left.
[Its chain of transmission is daif] * Muharibi narrated with an ambiguous form of transmission (an'ana), and the hadith of Bukhari (1594, 7275) makes it unnecessary.
