The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, and Abu Bakr and Umar after him, and the dwellings of Mecca were referred to only as "free properties." Whoever was in need would live in them, and whoever had no need would let others live in them.

[Its chain is daif] Tahawi transmitted it in Maani al-Athar (4/48, 49) from the hadith of Umar bin Saeed, through the same route. Busiri graded it sahih according to the standard of Muslim, while Dumayri graded it daif and said, "Alqama bin Nadla's companionship [with the Prophet] is not established," and what he said is correct.
