Sab bin Jaththamah reported, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me while I was at al-Abwa or Waddan, and I offered him a wild donkey as a gift. He returned it to me. When he saw the displeasure on my face, he said, 'We are not returning it to you except that we are in the state of ihram.'"
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة وهشام بن عمار قالا حدثنا سفيان بن عيينة ح و حدثنا محمد بن رمح أنبأنا الليث بن سعد جميعا عن ابن شهاب الزهري عن عبيد الله بن عبد الله
أنبأنا صعب بن جثامة قال مر بي رسول الله ﷺ وأنا بالأبواء أو بودان فأهديت له حمار وحش فرده علي فلما رأى في وجهي الكراهية قال إنه ليس بنا رد عليك ولكنا حرم
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of the Penalty for Game, Chapter: If a Living Wild Donkey Is Given as a Gift to Someone in the State of Ihram, He Should Not Accept It, hadith no. 1825, and hadith nos. 2573 and 2596, from the hadith of Zuhri, through this same chain, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Hajj, Chapter: The Prohibition of Hunting Edible Land Game... to the end, hadith no. 51/1193, 52, from Ibn Ramh and from Ibn Abu Shayba, through this same chain.
