I was present with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ as he stood at Arafah, when some people from Najd came to him and asked, "Messenger of Allah, what is Hajj?"He replied, "Hajj is Arafah. Whoever arrives before the Fajr prayer on the night of Jam has completed his Hajj. The days at Mina are three, so whoever hurries and leaves in two days commits no sin, and whoever stays on commits no sin."Then he seated a man behind him on his mount, and the man began to call out these words to the people.Muhammad bin Yahya narrated to us, Abdul-Razzaq narrated to us, Thawri informed us, from Bukayr bin Ata Laythi, from Abdul-Rahman bin Yamar Dili, who said, "I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Arafah, and a group of people from Najd came to him," and he mentioned something similar.Muhammad bin Yahya remarked, "I do not consider Thawri to have a nobler hadith than this one."
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة وعلي بن محمد قالا حدثنا وكيع حدثنا سفيان عن بكير بن عطاء
شهدت رسول الله ﷺ وهو واقف بعرفة وأتاه ناس من أهل نجد فقالوا يا رسول الله كيف الحج قال الحج عرفة فمن جاء قبل صلاة الفجر ليلة جمع فقد تم حجه أيام منى ثلاثة فمن تعجل في يومين فلا إثم عليه ومن تأخر فلا إثم عليه ثم أردف رجلا خلفه فجعل ينادي بهن حدثنا محمد بن يحيى حدثنا عبد الرزاق أنبأنا الثوري عن بكير بن عطاء الليثي عن عبد الرحمن بن يعمر الديلي قال أتيت رسول الله ﷺ بعرفة فجاءه نفر من أهل نجد فذكر نحوه قال محمد بن يحيى ما أر للثوري حديثا أشرف منه
[Sahih] Reported by Nasai, Rites of Hajj, Chapter: The obligation of standing at Arafah, no. 3019, from the hadith of Waki, through this route. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 2822, as did Hakim, 1/278, 463, 464, and Dhahabi. Sufyan explicitly stated that he heard it directly, as found in Abu Dawud, no. 1949, and elsewhere.
