Waki used to abstain from eating meat. He said, "I fought alongside my master on the day of Khaybar while I was still a slave, so I was not given any share of the spoils. I was given a sword from the household goods, and when I strapped it on, I had to drag it along the ground."

[Its isnad is sahih] Abu Dawud narrated it in jihad, the chapter on the woman and the slave being given a share from the spoils, no. 2730, from the hadith of Muhammad bin Zayd, through this route. Tirmidhi said, no. 1557, hasan sahih. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1669, as did Hakim, 2/131, and Dhahabi.
