I heard that the Prophet ﷺ was brought a case of inheritance involving a grandfather, and he assigned him either a third or a sixth.
حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا شبابة حدثنا يونس بن أبي إسحق عن أبي إسحق عن عمرو بن ميمون
سمعت النبي ﷺ أتي بفريضة فيها جد فأعطاه ثلثا أو سدسا
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Nasai reported it in Sunan al-Kubra (4/72, no. 6333) from the hadith of Yunus, at length, in a similar wording.Abu Ishaq used an ambiguous form of transmission, as noted earlier under hadith 46. See also the following hadith, and the hadith of Abu Dawud (2894, 2895) makes it unnecessary.
