[Sahih] Reported by Abu Dawud in "Hudud," chapter on cutting off the hand for theft by stealth and breach of trust, no. 4391-4393, from the hadith of Ibn Jurayj, with this wording, and he explicitly stated hearing it directly in the version of Darimi, 2/175, and others. Tirmidhi graded it sahih, no. 1448, as did Ibn Hibban in "Mawarid," no. 1502-1504, and others. Amr bin Dinar also related it from Jabir with this wording, as found in Ibn Hibban and others. Abu Dawud and others noted a flaw in it, though it is not one that undermines the hadith.
