His father reported that the Prophet ﷺ said, "The hand of the thief is to be cut off for the value of a shield."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا أبو هشام المخزومي حدثنا وهيب حدثنا أبو واقد
عن أبيه عن النبي ﷺ قال تقطع يد السارق في ثمن المجن
[Hasan] Ahmad (1/169) narrated it from the hadith of Waheeb bin Khalid, with this wording. Busiri said, "This chain contains Abu Waqid, whose name is Salih bin Muhammad bin Zaidah Laythi, and he is daif." Diya included it in al-Mukhtarah on the basis of a corroborating witness found in a sahih narration from Ayesha. Nasai narrated it (8/80, no. 4946) with a hasan chain, from Ayesha, as a statement of the Prophet, with the wording, "The hand of the thief is cut off for the price of a shield, and the price of a shield is a quarter of a dinar."
