The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Any slave who contracts to buy his freedom for one hundred ounces and pays all of it except ten ounces remains a slave."
حدثنا أبو كريب حدثنا عبد الله بن نمير ومحمد بن فضيل عن حجاج
قال رسول الله ﷺ أيما عبد كوتب على مائة أوقية فأداها إلا عشر أوقيات فهو رقيق
This hadith is hasan. Ahmad narrated it (2/178) from Abdullah bin Numayr with this wording, and Busiri graded it daif.Hajjaj bin Artah was not the only one who narrated it. Abbas Jariri corroborated him, as recorded by Abu Dawud (3927) and Bayhaqi (10/323), in the reading "the two trustworthy narrators" or "Ala." The first reading names reliable narrators and is the more correct one, while the second, naming Ala, refers to someone unknown. The hadith has supporting witnesses in Abu Dawud, numbers 3926 and 3928, and elsewhere, so the hadith is hasan. See the hadith that follows.
