I was with my father at al-Bawazij when the cattle returned in the evening. He noticed a cow he did not recognize among them and asked, "What is this?"They replied, "A cow that joined the herd."He ordered that it be driven away, and it was chased off until it disappeared from sight. Then he said, "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'None gives shelter to a stray animal except one who is himself astray.'"

Sourcing, sahih. Nasai transmitted it in Sunan al-Kubra, 3/416, no. 5800, from the hadith of Yahya bin Saeed, through the same chain.Dahhak was not deemed reliable by anyone except Ibn Hibban, and his mention was dropped from the chain in Abu Dawud, no. 1720. It has a corroborating narration in Muslim's Sahih, no. 1725, and by that the hadith is confirmed as sahih.
