[Hasan] Darimi narrated it: 2/273, from the hadith of Ismail bin Muslim Makki, with this wording, and Busiri graded it daif. See number 301 for its defect. Bayhaqi narrated it: 6/155, with a sahih chain of transmission, from Abu Hurairah, who said, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The protected boundary of a well is forty cubits on all its sides, for the resting places of camels and sheep, and the traveler drinks first, and the surplus water must not be withheld in order to withhold the pasture by it."I say, Abu Hasan Ali bin Muhammad bin Ali the Quran reciter, Isfaraini, the teacher of Bayhaqi known as Ibn Sakka, the imam, the hafiz, the critic, the judge, from a family of hadith imams, from whom Bayhaqi and a group of others transmitted (Siyar Alam Nubala 17/305, 306), and Bayhaqi graded him sahih many times, see Sunan al-Kubra 4/249, 54, 48, 10/197, 209, 210. So his hadith is sahih. His teacher was the trustworthy, well-traveled scholar Abu Muhammad Hasan bin Muhammad bin Ishaq bin Azhar Isfaraini, the father of Abu Naeem (Nubala 16/50). And his teacher, Yusuf bin Yaqub the judge, was among the leading trustworthy narrators, his biography is in Tarikh Baghdad 14/310, 412, and Nubala 14/85, and elsewhere. Those above him are trustworthy as well.So the chain, and thus the hadith, is sahih. With this corroborating witness, it is hasan.
