The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The soul of the believer is suspended by his debt until it is paid off on his behalf."
حدثنا أبو مروان العثماني حدثنا إبراهيم بن سعد عن أبيه عن عمر بن أبي سلمة عن أبيه
قال رسول الله ﷺ نفس المؤمن معلقة بدينه حتى يقضى عنه
[Its isnad is hasan] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on what has been said that the soul of the believer remains suspended by its debt until it is paid off, hadith no. 1079, from the hadith of Ibrahim bin Saad through this chain, and he said, This is a hasan hadith. The hadith has several routes, some of which Ibn Hibban graded sahih, hadith no. 1158, and others as well.
