His father reported that a funeral was brought before the Prophet ﷺ for him to pray over. He said, "Pray over your companion, for he has a debt upon him."Abu Qatada said, "I will take responsibility for it."The Prophet ﷺ asked, "In full?"He replied, "In full."The debt owed was eighteen or nineteen dirhams.
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا أبو عامر حدثنا شعبة عن عثمان بن عبد الله بن موهب قال سمعت
عن أبيه أن النبي ﷺ أتي بجنازة ليصلي عليها فقال صلوا على صاحبكم فإن عليه دينا فقال أبو قتادة أنا أتكفل به قال النبي ﷺ بالوفاء قال بالوفاء وكان الذي عليه ثمانية عشر أو تسعة عشر درهما
[Its isnad is sahih] Tirmidhi transmitted it in the Book of Funerals, chapter on what has been said regarding praying over the indebted deceased, hadith no. 1069, from the hadith of Shubah with this wording, and he said, hasan sahih, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih (Mawarid), hadith no. 1161.
